This past Monday a bluebird was checking out a nest box I set out specifically to attract bluebirds. Now I’m hoping they actually use it to raise some young so I can get better photographs. They checked it out last year but chose not to utilize it. When a pair of chickadees started building a nest in the box, the bluebirds chased them off and the house remained empty.
This is my favorite photo I took in 2015. I made it last February and didn’t post it till now because I saved it as one of my calendar exclusives. The two chickadees posed together on this fallen deer antler for maybe three seconds before the top one flew off.
Have a wonderful holiday and a great New Year.
Every year I have birds nesting in the nest box I built. I’ve had tree swallows nesting in it but most of the time it’s chickadees. This year a pair of titmice took up residence. Right now they are actively feeding their young. I took this photo about an hour ago as the adult paused before going into the box to feed the little ones. I’m loving the 7D Mark II.
Chickadees are always abundant around here. I took this photo about half an hour ago, even though they’re abundant it still takes patience to get a good image.
This was a visitor to my backyard this past weekend. Could it be a harbringer of spring? Can only hope so.
Chickadee pausing on a dropped whitetail antler taken with the new Canon 7D Mark II.
The white is a sheet I hung up in the background.
This ruby crowned kinglet visited the sunflower on the same day as the chickadee. I don’t see too many of these around the yard so it was a nice surprize.
